Venom is a Marvel Comics character originating as a symbiote, an alien life form that requires a host to survive. The symbiote grants its host enhanced strength, agility, and other abilities, and typically forms a dark, monstrous appearance.
The Venom symbiote first appeared in *The Amazing Spider-Man* #252 (May 1984), though its first full appearance was in *The Amazing Spider-Man* #300 (May 1988). Initially bonded with Spider-Man (Peter Parker), the symbiote was eventually rejected due to its negative influence.
Eddie Brock became the symbiote's most well-known host. Driven by a grudge against Spider-Man, Brock used the symbiote's power to become a villainous force. Over time, Venom has evolved from a straight villain to an anti-hero, sometimes even acting as a lethal protector.
